FAQ
- Why shouldn't I touch my face? Here's one reason.
- What does JalapeNO! do with my data? It uses your watch's orientation sensors to detect when your watch hand is near or on your face. It does not store or transmit your data in any way.
- How do I get JalapeNO! on my Fitbit Ionic or Versa?
- In your phone's browser, go to the JalapeNO! home page.
- Click on the "Fitbit Ionic" or "Fitbit Versa" button. This will take you to the Fitbit Gallery.
- Click on the "Open App" link. This will take you to your Fitbit app, where you can download and install JalapeNO!.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- How do I use JalapeNO! on my Fitbit Ionic or Versa?
- Make sure you have the JalapeNO! clockface selected in the Fitbit app on your phone.
- On your Fitbit, tap the screen to choose a mode:
- left wrist (red image, "on,left" on watch screen)
- right wrist (red image, "on,right" on watch screen)
- off (green image, "off" on watch screen)
- When the mode is "on" and your hand is near or touching your face, your Fitbit should vibrate.
- What's the point of training my watch hand, when my other hand can still touch my face? All versions of JalapeNO! work on either wrist. That way, you can switch back and forth until both hands are trained.
- The vibrations are really annoying. Yeah, that's kinda the point. If you genuinely need to have your hands near your face (e.g. you're applying makeup), just turn the app off.
- Why does JalapeNO! misbehave when I wear my watch on the inside of my wrist? Right now, there's no way for JalapeNO! to consistently detect whether you're wearing your watch on the inside or outside of your wrist, so it assumes you're wearing it on the outside. If this is important to you, let us know, and we'll work on it.
- Why is the Fitbit Versa app not very accurate? Sometimes it doesn't vibrate when I'm touching my face, and sometimes it vibrates when I'm not touching my face. Unlike the other smartwatches we support, the Fitbit Versa doesn't have a gyroscope. So, JalapeNO! has to use the accelerometer to get hand position. This means that, if there's any other acceleration going on (e.g. if you're walking or driving), it could get the wrong reading, and vibrate (or fail to vibrate) by mistake. We hope you still find it useful — if not, we'd be happy to give you a refund.
